Accomodation in Uzbekistan

Post by Admin on 24.07.16 13:11

In any case, travelers staying more than 1-2 days must be registered, either in Hotel/Hostel/Guesthouse or in Police Department (OVIR). Couchsurfing can be legal, when the owner and traveler go to OVIR and register traveler, but this is very complicated and time-consuming process.

without marriage with local girl hotels don't allow you into 1 room, you book 2 rooms and you can use 1, but you pay for 2 rooms.

But as you pay in Som at the official rate in regular hotels, many of even the better hotels are currently cheaper than the homestays (which you pay in Dollar)

you should note that with a visa for a tourist visit, you can't legally stay at a private home. You have to stay at a hotel or guest house authorized to accomodate foreigners all the time, at least officially.

if you stay in Uzbek say 14 days and can show registration slips for say 11 days doubt it will be an issue. If you cannot show any slips for the whole 14 days yes this will be a problem when you try and leave. They collect the slips at exit from country. My understanding is if when you exited you had no slips you'd be questioned extensively exactly where you have been staying, if this happens to be at the airport could mean you miss flight; you will no doubt be fined.

If you booked for $10 you can (and should) pay $10 in USD (almost all hotels accept USD).

When they say must be paid in US $s means they will not accept local SOM currency; if you have a Visa or Mastercard can pay with this; they will charge you in US $ on your card. We stayed 2 different hotels in Tashkent, one accepted SOM one we had to use Visa (ie US $), in Samarkand and Bukhara we paid in SOM cash. Also ATMs in Tashkent (not sure about other cities) dispensed US $ only but could only take out 100 or 200$ a transaction. My experience was you do not have to pay in US$ with cash.

In two weeks in the country only 1 hotel in Khiva accepted soums, rest was dollars.
And paying by visa or mastercard was not an option in any of the hotels we stayed in... We could only pay in cash...
