Money and curriencies

Chorsu Bazaar - the best exchange rate for USD.

preferred places to change USDs at black market rate were my hotels and sometimes even tourist offices are willing to change the cash at favourable rate. Police for the moment turn a blind eye to these (illegal) activities so it's worth asking around how safe it is to change money at black market rates in public.

to withdraw dollars not the local currency from ATM only issue $US - and its limited to $US20 or $50 so you have to keep making withdrawals and thus paying fees if you want more - best thing is to withdraw money before you go to Uzbekistan and take cash to Uzbekistan

you will pay fee to your home county bank, i.e. whichever bank issued you your card (unless your bank has some sort of free foreign withdrawal arrangement which I doubt) This is very expensive and depending what currency your original card is in there could be a double exchange rate. As an example we made a couple of withdrawals last year, it cost just under $US5 in fees each withdrawal. So if you are going to be there 2 months and keep taking out money at $50 a time it will cost you a lot in fees.

If you use ATM, the exchange rate will be the official one.

Also note ATMs go down often. ATMs are not everywhere
